I'm back! And busy as ever...

Well, shamefully it's been almost a year since I last posted, but that isn't because I haven't been reading the cards.  In fact I've been lucky enough to have read at several events since last Spring: most recently the wonderful Dead Dolls Funeral 'dark hafla' charity fundraiser, organised by the indomitable Demolitia Tribal.  Later this month I'll be at Pagan Pride's 'Japanarama', using a gorgeous Anime-style majors only deck to read at the Geisha Tea Party during the afternoon.

As well as typically reading at an event every other month, I've been seeing some private clients in their homes, which is always a privilege.  To be invited into somebody's 'sanctuary' and allowed to witness and take part in an important conversation between them and the cards about often very personal and emotional matters... well, it's an honour and a responsibility, that's for sure.

I've been expanding and refining my own selection of decks too.  I've finally got a set of Thoth cards which I'm looking forward to starting work with, following very strong recommendations from a trusted friend that helped me get some reticence on my part.  On the other hand, I've realised that I will never read with the Tarot of Oz - pretty and brilliantly designed as it is, it just doesn't speak to me 'that way'.  So I will be passing it on, as it is in mint condition.  I also have a sealed set for sale. (Yes, I was so excited when I found it that I bought it twice - I was a BIG fan of the L. Frank Baum books as a child - but as readers may know, some decks will 'talk to you' and others turn out to be just beautiful and well-grouped images on quality card!)

My two favourite decks remain the respective Tarots of the Deviant Moon and Magical Forest.  Deviant Moon is a perennial favourite on Aeclectic Tarot and these two also get a lot of love from Kiki at Tarot Dame.  They are quite different in some ways, particularly palette and artistic approach (DM is dark and created using collage effects; MF is pastel and drawn) but they both share a kind of 'kitsch melancholy' - at least that's how I see them.

I also often still carry my Gummy Bear tarot around with me because a) they're well protected in their little metal tin, b) they are small and so fit easily into a handbag, c) they are very RWS so immediately make sense to Tarot aficionados yet d) people with little exposure to Tarot don't find them intimidating like they do a more traditional deck.  For example, I took them on a friend's hen weekend last Summer and they went down really well.  Although, in retrospect, my all-girl Vanessa Tarot (same size and tin feature) may have been an even better choice here!

Anyway, I'm still loving my journey through and with Tarot, whether reading with friends, at charity events or for private clients, and will try to write again soon about what I am learning and experiencing.

Love and light to all,
Charlotte Aurora
